The season will open with “Forever Plaid” and will be presented on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 8:00pm. The critically acclaimed show, “Forever Plaid”, is an affectionate revue of the close-harmony ‘guy groups’ that reached the height of their popularity during the 1950s. Personifying the clean-cut genre are the Plaids. Join Jinx, Sparky, Francis, and Smudge in this musical comedy that centers on four young, eager male singers killed in a car crash on the way to their first major concert. Now miraculously revived, the singers finally get a chance to fulfill their biggest dreams and perform the show that never was. “Forever Plaid” showcases the upbeat music that was made popular in the 1950s by artists and groups such as Perry Como, Eddie Fisher, The Four Lads and The Ames Brothers and includes such hits as "Catch A Falling Star," "Sixteen Tons," "Crazy 'Bout Ya Baby" and "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing." This hilarious production is fun for the entire family.
Our second show in the Series will be, “Capitol Steps”, presented on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 8:00pm in Civic Hall. The Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. In the years that followed, Capitol Steps have taken the performers that have worked in a total of eighteen Congressional offices and have put together a group that represents 62
years of collective House and Senate staff experience. (Although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers) Since they began, the Capitol Steps have recorded 29 albums and have been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS, and can be heard 4 times a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their radio specials.
Scheduled for two performances on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 4:00pm & 8:00pm in Civic Hall will be Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers with a “Gatlin Brothers Christmas”. Over 50 years ago, Larry, Steve, and Rudy Gatlin started singing in their little hometown of Abilene, Texas, and from there went on to make music history. Over the course of a four-decade career that has taken the Gatlin Brothers from dusty Texas stages to White House performances, from Broadway to Grammy Awards to the top of the country charts, there has been one unifying element, music. Since then a popular ground swell has arisen that has persuaded them to do some selected dates that they are calling 'The Gatlin Brothers Never Ending Reunion Tour’. Don’t miss this special holiday concert with Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers at Civic Hall.
The fourth performance for the Proudly Presenting Series is scheduled at 8:00pm on Saturday, March 26, 2011, with Celtic Blaze featuring Stephanie Cadman in a brand-new theatrically-staged show appealing to all ages. The show explores Canadian heritage through music and dance, set to a modern creative-contemporary edge. The unique performance blends Ms. Cadman’s vast performance experience featuring Ottawa Valley Stepdancing, classical and Celtic fiddling, musical theatre and vocals. A world-champion tap dancer, Ms. Cadman has traveled throughout North America and Asia with various groups including Bowfire and The StepCrew). Celtic Blaze’s unique choreography brings the entire show together through song and dance. Don’t miss this exciting evening of music and dance in Civic Hall.
The last show in the Proudly Presenting Series is the “Dallas Brass” on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 8:00pm. Founded in 1983 by Michael Levine, the Dallas Brass has become one of America’s foremost musical ensembles. The Dallas Brass show, American Musical Journey, incorporates a full complement of brass and percussion for a musical travelogue through American history, from the time of George Washington to the present day. The program’s music has been selected from the masters – Copland, Bernstein, Gershwin, Berlin, Sousa; from bands like the Tijuana Brass and Chicago; and styles from Dixieland, swing, Broadway, folk, patriotic, pop, and even hip-hop! The Dallas Brass’ primary mission includes connecting with young musicians. Clinics are held in conjunction with almost every concert and band students are invited to join the Dallas Brass onstage for a selection on the evening performance. Don’t miss this wonderful evening of music along with our community youth playing on stage with the Dallas Brass.
